ACTIVITIES |
The Custody of the Holy Land still remains an important institution, continuing its historical mission in the Holy Places and bearing witness to the Catholic Faith in the countries in which it operates. |
Its activities have been increased or reduced, according to the course of events in the tormented Middle East. The Custody brought about the reflowering of cultural-scientific activities in the archaeological field, particularly in research and excavation connected with the Holy Scriptures, and increased its social assistance works, during the last hundred years. |

It helps the poor and needy to find a home and to pay the rent, and it deals with parish churches, clubs for young people, scholarships for university students, medical surgeries, embroidery and sewing workshops for girls, pilgrims' hostels, old people's homes, orphanages and schools. |
The schools of the Holy Land give special care towards the poor, because the Gospel is oriented towards the poor. If some students are unable to pay their tuition, they pay only a symbolic or nominal payment. |

The philosophy is to bring individuals together without any bias either to social classes or to religious creeds in terms of educational activities. These schools offer an opportunity to develop the entire person, shaping both the spiritual and mental sphere of the person as well as mutual respect for all. |

They attempt to meet the needs of all those who are deprived economically, physically, morally, and to welcome the stranger. Thus the interest in education becomes an act of love towards humanity. |
