GETHSEMANE / GETSEMANI

This is one of the eight centuries-old olive trees, the silent witnesses of Jesus' agony: "...Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done". (Lk 22,42).  The Franciscans bought this place in 1666 and the present Basilica was built between 1919 and 1924.

Questo è uno degli otto ulivi secolari, i silenziosi testimoni dell'agonia di Gesù: "Padre, se vuoi, allontana da me questo calice! Tuttavia non sia fatta la mia, ma la tua volontà" (Lc 22,42).  I Francescani acquistarono questo luogo nel 1666 e l'attuale Basilica fu costruita fra il 1919 ed il 1924.
