MOUNT TABOR / MONTE TABOR

"And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem(...)".(Lk 9, 28-36; Mt 17,1-8; Mk 9, 2-8). Other important events occurred on this mountain, so it's often mentioned in the Holy Bible. The Franciscans bought the ruins of the sanctuary in 1631.  The present Basilica was built between 1919 and 1924.

"Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo e salì sul monte a pregare. E, mentre pregava, il suo volto cambiò d'aspetto e la sua veste divenne candida e sfolgorante. Ed ecco due uomini parlavano con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia, apparsi nella loro gloria, e parlavano della sua dipartita che avrebbe portato a compimento a Gerusalemme.(...)" (Lc 9, 28-36; Mt 17,1-8; Mc 9, 2-8)  Su questo monte sono accaduti altri importanti eventi, per cui è spesso menzionato nella Bibbia.  I Francescani acquistarono le rovine del santuario nel 1631.  L'attuale Basilica fu costruita fra il 1919 ed il 1924.
